Officer Requirements
Candidates for the position of Police Constable with Kingston Police must meet specific requirements to be considered.
Citizenship
Citizenship - Police Officer Candidates must be either a Canadian citizen or permanent resident to be a police officer in Ontario.
Residency - You do not have to be a Kingston resident to apply for or work as a KP Officer.
Language - High proficiency in spoken and written English is required. Additional languages spoken is an asset.
Character
Police Officer Candidates must be of good moral character and habits, be highly ethical and accountable and have regard to their own safety and the safety of the public.
Candidates should have no criminal conviction(s) for which a pardon has not been granted.
Health & Fitness
Background Standards
All candidates will be reviewed on interpersonal skills, decision making, maturity and discipline, honesty and integrity, and setting and achieving goals. All candidates will also go through a comprehensive records check.
New Recruits - Additional Requirements
Education
A 4 year high school diploma is required.
Any additional training or education may be considered an asset, such as:
- advanced military training
- college diploma
- university degree
Certification
